Chapter 869
Yoon-Seok and Seo-Yoon, wearing expressions of disbelief, extracted the mana stone—the source of its power—from the body of the Special A-class monster, Taowu.
"Who would have thought... that two people alone could actually take down a Taowu.”
"Yeah, seriously."
Not many on Earth could take down a Taowu with such a small number of people. Realistically, it should have been impossible for them.
Even though the white light had invigorated them, they had never imagined they could actually defeat such a powerful monster.
Clap! Clap! Clap!
The two reflexively turned their heads as the sound of clapping echoed.
Whoosh!!! Bang!!Suddenly, Davey flew at them and aimed a kick at Yoon-Seok, who instinctively gathered water to create a water barrier, blocking the attack. The shockwave rippled through the surroundings.
Yoon-Seok, who had been tensed up, was now smiling.
"Oh, not bad."
"Hmph! I won’t lose to you anymore."
"Alright. You two are ready.”
He turned around without hesitation and waved his hand. Then, blades of water formed from the gathered moisture and sliced past Davey.
"May I ask what you\'re trying to do?"
"Just getting a little payback for all the suffering."
"Yoon-Seok?!"
Seo-Yoon screamed in shock, but Yoon-Seok shouted confidently.
"If you\'re such a big-shot saint, you won\'t complain about a little tantrum like this, will you?"
"Hmm... Well, I did make you two work.”
"You fucking psychopath! Don\'t complain if I get a few hits in now!"
"Yoon-Seok, what are you doing?! Are you going to ruin everything now?!"
Yoon-Seok, intoxicated by his newfound power, didn’t bother to listen.
"Why? Are you scared? I’m sorry, but now I feel like I won’t be satisfied unless I beat you up real good."
As Seo-Yoon hurriedly moved to stop him, Davey raised his arm to stop her.
"Alright. Your reasoning is rather silly, but being confident is a good thing. Come at me."
Davey spoke calmly and took a step forward.
"Hah! I\'m not the same as before!"
Swoosh!!
Streams of water formed massive spears and poured down. Seeing this, Davey took a short breath.
[To the sleeping Goddess Freyja, who knows not what’s happening outside during her slumber, allow me to borrow your blessing for a moment.]
Whummm!
A pure white aura seeped into him in an instant.
And then—
"What?"
Yoon-Seok, who had been preparing to fire his spear at Davey, widened his eyes in surprise. He felt like time had frozen for a brief moment. Before he knew it, Davey had already moved right in front of him.
"Perfect. I needed a sandbag for practice anyway.”
At his quiet, chilling voice, Yoon-Seok realized something was wrong. Davey enveloped a dark crimson energy around his hand. It was an energy far too menacing for someone called a saint.
He had drawn in so close that Yoon-Seok couldn’t even extend his arm to defend. The time it took for Davey to slowly unfold his arm and sharply thrust it toward him with precision was no more than an instant.
"Killing someone is easier than beating someone to the verge of death.”
Bang! Boom!!
The massive impact sent Yoon-Seok flying, rolling across the ground before finally falling still.
The overwhelming destructive power was such that it made Seo-Yoon question if Yoon-Seok was even still alive, clearly beyond what those who had grown cocky over their slight increase in strength could endure.
He had made precise measurements with his fingertips, folded his fingers in an instant, and drove his fist forward. The distance was a mere one to two inches—remarkably short—but the resulting force was something completely earth-shattering.
"Just another brat that doesn’t know who they’re messing with.”
He then loosened up and looked at Seo-Yoon.
"Do you want to go against me too?”
"No."
"Don\'t be scared. I don\'t intend to use that move against you. I controlled my strength, so he shouldn\'t be dead."
Davey smiled faintly as he looked at Yoon-Seok—still as a rock, impossible to tell whether he was dead or unconscious.
"Can I ask you one thing?” she cautiously asked.
"Go ahead."
"Why are you making us stronger?" she said as she looked straight at Davey.
"At first, I found it strange. You had us do things that felt like mere harassment; it seemed like you were just finding excuses to make us suffer. But we pushed through, and that made us headstrong.”
"And?"
"But after repeating the process a few times, I couldn’t help but realize…"
‘That you… You made me stronger in ways I couldn\'t have imagined, in such a short time.’
"I’m aware my total amount of power hasn’t changed. But the amount of strength I can generate with my small power is now many times, maybe dozens of times, greater than what it used to be. The things the black dragon and the fire dragon said... At first, I thought they were mocking me. But after paying attention to and reflecting on their words, I found myself changed."
Davey looked up at the sky before replying quietly.
"It’s up to you what you want to think, but I haven\'t done anything special. It\'s all power you’ve had from the beginning."
"That\'s..."
"Enough. It looks like you’re ready now, so follow me. I\'ll show you why I put you through all that."
Davey walked into the forest, leaving the fallen Yoon-Seok behind. Seo-Yoon followed him silently.
She also put Yoon-Seok to the back of her mind.
* * *
"What is this...?"
Seo-Yoon stared at the massive rift in front of her with a horrified expression.
"When I first heard about this and discovered it, it only reached about knee-high."
"Heard about it?"
"Yeah. There are others spending their time truly protecting Earth, unlike you two."
Valkyrie.
The emissaries of Neltarid, the God of Harmony after Destruction.
Kain and Frelia.
"This rift isn\'t one that spits out monsters. It\'s a rift for entering."
"A rift for entering..."
"Yes. The problem is this."
Speaking calmly, Davey extended his hand into the rift.
Crackle!!
A faint spark bounced off his hand.
"The level of monsters has increased. You know that, right?"
"Yes…”
"If we can\'t figure out why, we\'ll never move forward and finally get rid of them. So, I\'m giving you a chance—you two will go into that rift and investigate the root cause of all this."
With that, he handed her two small mana stones.
"These are video and voice stones. Think of them as simple camcorders."
"Why choose us…?"
"Because you two have the best chance of survival, and you two caused this problem in the first place."
"I\'ve never seen or heard of a rift like this. We obviously need to report this to the NSDIA and inform the International Alliance."
"No, only you two are entering."
"Why?! We don’t know what\'s inside, and going in with just the two of us is…!!"
"You said you\'d save people, even if you’d lose all your hair and die on the spot. Didn’t you say that?”
‘I can\'t do that. Saving people is something those who have the luxury should do.’ Davey thought
That was why, despite their attitudes, he respected them. It was also why he didn\'t kill Yoon-Seok despite his hostility, and why he awakened their dormant potential.
She said nothing in response.
"There are two reasons I haven\'t made this public. First, if I do, my presence on Earth will inevitably be exposed. That means the truth that you tried to hide becomes known as well.”
This was the first reason.
"And the second reason is even simpler."
Davey pulled out his smartphone from his pocket.
"Does the smartphone have something to do with this?"
"You know about mobile games, right? RPGs or collection RPGs?"
"Huh?Uh... Yes, I do."
"When you send your character to auto hunt or farm, how long does it usually take?"
"Typically, it continues until you stop it or their stamina is depleted. Farming usually takes a few hours, during which you can\'t use the character..."
"Exactly. The monsters here won\'t stop appearing in Korea for two months."
"Two months? You can\'t be serious!"
With those words, her eyes widened.
At that moment, he tossed the unconscious Yoon-Seok, whom he’d grabbed over from the distance, into the rift.
"See you in two months. Record everything you learn there and bring it back. That information is important for me, but also for you two."
"Is the sudden appearance of high-level monsters related to you?"
"That\'s what you\'re going to find out."
She nodded quietly at his words, then accepted the bag he handed her.
"I\'ve packed all the essentials, including food and water. It should be enough for the two of you to live off of. The buffs I cast on you two will last exactly two months. If you don\'t come out by then, I\'ll assume you’ve died and destroy the rift."
"Understood."
"I\'ll send someone to keep watch over you two while you\'re gone, at least."
With that, he gestured his hand. She saw something appear silently behind him.
They were a beautiful elf with soft pink hair and a stern-faced man. She looked at Seo-Yoon.
"Meet Anabelle and Meramong."
"Not... human?"
"They\'re both golems."
"Golems? You mean the stone guardians?"
"Something like that."
"Oh my…”
Seo-Yoon flinched at the eerie names, but Anabelle calmly handed her a piece of paper.
[Let\'s play together.]
Despite the single, innocent sentence, Seo-Yeon felt eerie and couldn’t help but look at Davey.
"They\'re a bit mischievous, but they won\'t harm anyone carelessly."
With that, Anabelle and Meramong turned to look at each other and started twisting their necks at strange angles. And when Meramong copied Anabelle by twisting his neck the other way, some unseen force twisted Meramong\'s body.
"Eek?!"
"There they go again. Hey, hey! I told you not to fight!"
The Avengers Squadron, unlike the Decepticon Fleet, had an advanced artificial intelligence system. The problem was that these two had a bad relationship.
Whether they were playing or actually fighting, no one knew.
Anabelle, who had been twisting Meramong with invisible hands, walked off somewhere. She then sat in a rocking chair she brought from who knows where and started singing a strange tune while rocking back and forth.
"Um... Are they really okay?"
"Uh... What did Rinne do to that AI?"
Meramong, who had been twitching in a strange form, liquefied and returned to its original form.
"Meramong. Work with Anabelle, and act according to the information Frelia or Kain brings. Don\'t hurt any innocent people."
The prototype living golem of the Avengers Squadron, Meramong, nodded silently.
And then, Seo-Yoon entered the rift.
"It\'s me. As promised, I\'ll return them in two months. Don\'t worry. I\'m not going to imprison or torment them like salt mine slaves. They went in willingly... pretty much."
‘And they\'ll bring back interesting stuff when they return—because they’re not crafting slaves, they’re farming slaves.’
There was a hidden truth he hadn’t told Seo-Yoon about. But of course, telling her wouldn\'t do her any good anyway.
* * *
Thwack! Thud!
The knights rolled on the ground.
"Ugh..."
Among the men groaning in pain, a young boy stood alone, walking elegantly. With a soft smile that could sway hearts and a well-balanced physique, his movements were smooth and fluid.
None of the expert-level warriors could handle this teenage boy; all of them had gone down.
"Ever since I’ve obtained the edicts martial, everything\'s been so boring. Isn\'t there anyone skilled enough to make things interesting?"
"Your Highness! You need to leave soon to prepare for the tournament!"
"How annoying. All the guys going to that thing are weak anyway. I\'m not interested."
The boy, who held a ticket to the upcoming Continental Martial Arts Tournament, was brimming with arrogance. However, his maid Loisa couldn’t call him arrogant.
From what she knew, no one could take on two or more fist masters and come out unscathed except for him. In fact, the boy standing in front of her possessed overwhelmingly strong martial arts skills.
"By the way, will there be a lot of beautiful women there? Maybe if I put on a good show, I could get a girlfriend too?”
"Your Highness..."
"I just hope there\'s someone in this tournament who can entertain me."
"Come to think of it, there are rumors that a saint is participating this time..."
"Who?"
"Prince Davey O’Rowane, the saint from the Kingdom of Rowane, Your Highness."
The boy grinned.
"The strongest in the continent? Hey, Loisa. If I were to fight him right now, who do you think would win?"
The answer to his question was simple. The maid smiled brightly and replied:
"That would be..."
